International Six Step Sourcing Model

Identify the Objective

The first step in the IPD model involves meeting with our clients and clearly identifying their needs.  Typical discussions will involve the type of services required, timing of projects, and a general overview of the resources available to the customer from our company.  The experience gained from twenty five years of providing project management and sourcing in Asia allows us to understand the requirements and provide a complete supply chain solution from procurement to supply.  We work for our customers as an international extension of their procurement group providing skills and expertise found only in a company that is dedicated to complete customer solutions.

Plan the Project

Preliminary product reviews are performed with the client on areas such as design, manufacturing process capabilities, logistical requirements such as stocking levels, lead times etc.  We will designate a U.S. based project manager to head up a team comprised of engineers, planners and quality assurance personnel located both in the US and in Asia that are assigned for developing the project.  We investigate and perform on an ongoing basis pre-qualification surveys on manufacturers throughout the Pacific Rim intended to identify high quality sources.  The project team will select from our qualified sources and prepare economic estimates using competitive bids from multiple suppliers.

Focus on the Strategy

International Procurement & Distribution, Inc. will present a focused strategic approach designed to the customers needs.  We will identify and review for the customer the potential manufacturers that are qualified not only to develop the project but also provide a long term reliable source of supply.  We will complete a detailed logistical need survey and provide complete supply chain solutions tailored specifically to the customers needs. These solutions will include project schedules and complete coordination of all the resources to manage the project from concept to the establishment of a steady supply chain.

Implement the Project

IPD will assign a project team manager here in the U.S. to coordinate with engineers based in Asia who will be responsible for the daily on-site activities and communication needs of the project.  These team members are English speaking degreed engineers and professionals with decades of experience in manufacturing.  Our engineering and quality personnel will coordinate detailed product design and quality reviews with both our customers and the suppliers chosen for the project.  Our quality assurance team will monitor tooling development, perform process control studies, perform initial first article reviews, coordinate material certifications and perform ongoing inspections of production shipments. We will track the progress of each project on and ongoing basis and provide regular project updates.

Sustaining the Supply Chain

Once IPD has completed the initial phase of the project we will provide the customer with the planning, control and execution of all of the worldwide logistical activities required to cover the complete supply chain.  We will meet our customer’s demands with stocking programs providing a dependable competitive supply chain using our world class expertise in managing information flow, transportation issues, electronic tracking and our own warehouses.  Our teams of planners, both in the US and Asia, coordinate daily customer forecasts, planning of manufacturing production & capacity requirements and manage seasonal fluctuations.

Improve and Support

We perform regular continuous improvement activities to allow us to share benefits with our customers such as reduced costs and improved quality. Our teams include our own design and product engineers, quality inspectors and logistical support personnel.  We do third party inspections, independent material certifications, product testing and process qualification studies as services for our customers.  We also use our engineers to work with suppliers at their plants by providing assistance and technical seminars on an ongoing basis focusing on our customer’s products.  This unique sourcing model allows us and our customers to drive down to the base manufacturing level for both problem solving and quality enhancements.
